Griffin BreakSafe – magnetic analogue of MagSafe charging for 12” MacBook
Griffin Technology has announced the starting date of supplying its magnetic charging cables BreakSafe Magnetic USB-C Power Cable for 12-inch MacBook with Retina display, including the recently released new models. According to the manufacturer, the cable will go on sale on Monday, April 25th.
BreakSafe is a magnetic detachable cable for charging laptops via USB-C port. It will become an indispensable accessory for the 12-inch MacBook, which unlike the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro doesn’t support MagSafe technology.
This jack was firstly introduced by Apple in 2006 and allows the magnetic connector to be easily detached, if someone accidentally pulls out the power cord. BreakSafe presentation took place in January of this year at the International Consumer Electronics Show CES 2016. The cable is equipped with a quick release magnetic connector that plugs into the 12-inch MacBook USB-C port and can be safely detached from the rest of the wire if some force applied.
The depth of connector is 12.8 mm and cable length – 1.8m. Novelty supports USB Power Delivery standard. Worth to note that BreakSafe can only be used to charge the device and cannot transmit video or other data.
Currently, pre-order of the cable can be done on the Griffin Technology web site for the price of $39.99
