Why do you need to use Night Shift on the iPhone – a scientific explanation
By default the screen light in the most of smartphones offset in the “blue” part of spectrum, which is to our eyes is associated with a bright and warm sun. When you look at it in the middle of the night – the brain reflexively confuse the time of the day, quickly redirecting hormonal flows and make you stay awake instead of creating a blissful atmosphere for sleep.
Healthy sleeping – healthy body, including the psychological state of the consumer, and therefore for the equipment manufacturer. For continuous use it is profitable to invest into the solutions of problems in this area. Apple blocked the spread of jailbreak F.lux type utilities, probably because the smart developers thought ahead of IT giant. However, the technology has been adopted by Cupertino and now positioned as one of the most useful feature (since iOS 9.3) for all new Apple gadgets.
The essence of Night Shift is that at nightfall iPhone display automatically begins to display warm tones, away from the insidious blue. But why the blue color is so dangerous? When you see the daylight, the brain ceases production of the melatonin hormone, which is responsible for daily rhythm of the whole organism – it is equal to the shout to the body “Wake up!” Involuntary awakening from blue light will spoil the work of your memory for the next day. Who hasn’t had enough sleep – is not able to study, remember a list of important things to do, listen carefully to the boss or teacher, etc. Human – a daytime creature, whose perception is 70% formed by vision. Even imitation of sunlight causes the eyes to work tired and beyond the norm.
Constantly tired eyes – a step closer to cataract. There is a relationship between the interruption of the sleep function and the risk of prostate and breast cancer – danger threatens both men and woman. Disruption of sleeping also gives a portion of the neurotoxin. The more neurotoxins present in your body the more difficult to fall asleep and wake up as a whole. Broken internal clock and lack of melatonin can lead to depression. Purely on instinctive level you may have a breakfast out of turn which can be reflected in excessive fullness of many users.
As you can see, the blue light is the enemy of normal sleep. However, does the absence of blue light is helpful for a good rest or it is more like marketing trick? There is no correct answer, but the relevant scientists think that it’s all about marketing. The fact is that the influence of the smartphone on sleep function is multifaceted and it is not limited to one eye contact with the display. Night Shift Mode only helps to minimize stress for your eyes – a fact already noted by many reputable observers.
The absence of blue light doesn’t help someone who is suffering from insomnia because of multiple thoughts. But practice shows that the most reliable way to fall asleep – to keep your iPhone away from the bed, and yourself from the temptation to pass a minute or two checking social networks on your smartphone. Importantly, do not miss an alarm clock sound!
