Thoughts about how Apple Company could have been named differently

Apple products are known all over the world. Customers buying Apple’s products not just because they want to, but because it is fashionable. Of course, the name of the company is a very important aspect in business. The right name can make your company the talk of the town. But what would be if Apple Company was named differently? What could be the potential name of the company?

Officially, Apple was founded on April 1, 1976 April Fools’ Day and was initially called Apple Computers Inc. Only in 2007 the word “Computers” was expelled from the title and the company has ceased to deal only with computers and entered a global market.

But why Apple? Well, there are several theories and rumors. Some saying that one day, Steve Jobs asked his staff to come up with a unique company name. He didn’t like all provided options, so he said that if after some time the staff will not give him a good name for the company, he will call it “Apple” in the name of his favorite fruit. And so it happened. Another theory is that Steve Jobs chose the name Apple for his company because he admired the Beatles’ Apple Records. Some people saying that Apple was chosen because in this case, the company would stand higher in telephone directories than the company’s rival – the company Atari. And the last theory is that the apple is associated with Isaac Newton and his injury caused by falling apple which later served as an impetus for the great scientific discoveries.

So, let’s think what name could Apple Company have had. Maybe it is trivial, but since the company was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ron Wayne we can play with their names and create some Company name. However, Wayne quit the company after only 12 days, so the creators of Apple are usually called Jobs and Wozniak.

The first name for the company comes in mind is J&W or S&S, but as I said earlier it’s very trivial and wouldn’t drag so much attention as Apple. If we think about some other fruits and vegetables, despite the fact that those company names might be already taken, they wouldn’t sound and look so solid as an apple.

Imagine if the company name was Banana or Potato – funny right? The company wouldn’t be taken serious and wouldn’t buy users with that strange name. Maybe it’s just our mind not taking serious any other fruits or vegetables, because we are already used to Apple brand. Maybe if the Apple Company was initially named as a Pineapple or Orange we would get used to that and apple would sound strange to us.

In fact, the Apple is a great marketing name, it starts with the first letter of alphabet, when you see apple you think about fresh, juicy apples. I think apple was a great choice of the name for the company. But as we all know a good wine needs no bush, even though we know that apple spent a lot in advertising on initial stage of the company.
