Why the iPhone’s camera is so good?

Despite the fact that Apple’s competitors are actively increasing the number of megapixels in cameras of their smartphones and tablets, Cupertino is not rushing to win the race of megapixels. However, various tests and reviews are showing that the iPhone is not only one of the most popular devices with great camera, but also allows users to make very high-quality photos.

Yesterday, on the CBS News channel I saw an interview of Tim Cook and if you missed it I will tell you the most interesting information revealed during that show. During the interview were revealed interesting facts associated with the iPhone’s camera. In particular, Tim Cook mentioned that on the camera module of apple’s smartphones work an impressive team of 800 people. It includes the engineers, developers and other specialists.

Also, Apple representatives talked about the fact that when they work on a new camera in a special laboratory they create a wide variety of conditions such as shooting in poor illumination. Just to make one photo iPhone makes 24 billion operations and they take less than a second to be completed. The anti-shake feature is provided by 40 micron wires, which less than half of human hair, and all of that is included in the micro-suspension system that steadies the camera. In total, iPhone’s camera is consisted by more than 200 components.

The current generation of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are equipped with 12MP sensor camera on the rear and 5MP front camera for selfies, which is great improvement from previous 8MP and 1.5MP used on iPhone 6. Also, the new iSight camera includes the latest technology such as:

  • Autofocus with Focus Pixels
  • Optical Image stabilization
  • Live Photos
  • True tone flash
  • Panorama up to 64 megapixels
  • Auto HDR for photos
  • Exposure control
  • Burst mode
  • Timer mode
  • ƒ/2.2 aperture
  • Five-element lens
  • Hybrid IR filter
  • Backside illumination sensor
  • Sapphire crystal lens cover
  • Auto image stabilization
  • Improved local tone mapping
  • Improved noise reduction
  • Face detection
  • Photo geotagging

And of course 4k video recording 3840×2160 at 30fps or 1080 HD video recording at 30fps or 60fps. Currently, iPhone’s camera proved to be the best mobile phone camera in the world. I am very curious to know what camera will be on the new generation of iPhones.
